Nine Inch Nails ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ Album Gets 8-Bit Release

Pretty Eight Machine
Inverse Phase

Remember video games like ‘Donkey Kong’ and ‘Pac Man’ from years ago that used 8-bit sound? Well, 8-bit technology has kind of come back in style over the last couple of years, and some enterprising fans are capitalizing off of it by reworking some of your favorite albums, including Nine Inch Nails‘ ‘Pretty Hate Machine.’

Recently, Radiohead‘s ‘Kid A’ and ‘OK Computer’ albums got the 8-bit treatment, and now Nine Inch Nails’ classic debut disc, ‘Pretty Hate Machine,’ has been turned into ‘Pretty Eight Machine.’ That’s right! It’s Trent Reznor’s master work as heard utilizing the sound used on Atari 800, Commodore 64, NES and GameBoy systems.

In addition, the creator has had some fun with the song titles, turning such favorites as ‘Head Like a Hole,’ ‘Terrible Lie’ and ‘Down in It’ to new monikers like ‘Head Like I/O,’ ‘Atarible Lie,’ and ‘Downloadin’ It.’

As the creator states, “The album is the culmination of so many things — the recent celebration of ‘Pretty Hate Machine’s’ anniversary, the recent release of the remastered ‘PHM,’ my fandom and my love of Nine Inch Nails, my love of old school computers and gaming systems, and a hope that Trent Reznor, who likes vintage synths and gear, and Rob Sheridan (his pixelated avatar) will enjoy it.”

Apparently Rob Sheridan approved, as he tweeted out a message for his followers to go check it out.

Listen below, and head to the Inverse Phase Bandcamp site where you can purchase the disc digitally or on CD.
