Life-Size Barbie Has a Shocking Look [VIDEO]
As a 16-year-old, Galia Slayen made a life-size Barbie out of wood, chicken wire, paper-mache and -- of course -- two big balloons as way to deal with her anorexia.
Now, four years later, Slayen is a sophomore at Hamilton College and is using the massive (but freakishly slim) doll she built to start a conversation about eating disorders and body image issues.
Slayen -- who estimated that if Barbie were real, she'd stand six-feet tall and have a 39-inch bust, 18-inch waist and 33-inch hips -- doesn't blame Barbie for her own eating disorder; rather, she says the doll was just "one small factor" among many.
Still, she says it was hard to shake Barbie's figure from her mind at the time. "This idea of just being so thin and being so perfect, it would always come back to this idea of looking like this Barbie perfect," she said.
Slayen took her creation to 'Today' on Monday. Check out the video interview segment below.
