John Fogerty‘s newly recorded version of his classic ‘Almost Saturday Night,’ featuring country star Keith Urban, was one of the highlights of his recently released ‘Wrote a Song for Everyone‘ collection. Now, thanks to Fogerty fans worldwide, it has a video.
Vintage Vinyl News reports that “Fogerty asked his fans to send in pictures of what it meant to them to be ‘almost Saturday night,'” and then used their submissions to help fill out the clip, which also features footage from Fogerty and Urban’s time in the studio.
Originally released as part of Fogerty’s self-titled 1975 solo album, ‘Almost Saturday Night’ failed to gain much traction on the charts as a single, rising no further than No. 78 at the time. But it’s long been a favorite among famous Fogerty fans like Dave Edmunds (who scored a hit with his 1981 cover) and Ricky Nelson. The new version prominently features a lead banjo part contributed by Urban, who also chimes in with vocals.
Released earlier this year, ‘Wrote a Song for Everyone’ peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200. Even though it includes two new songs, the album leans heavily on re-recordings of Fogerty’s classic Creedence Clearwater Revival cuts, with guest appearances by a wide variety of rockers (including Bob Seger and Kid Rock), younger acts like Dawes and country stars such as Urban and Miranda Lambert.
