G. I. Joe Turns 50

Toy collectors everywhere are celebrating 50 years of G. I. Joe this year.

The world’s first action figure was first released around Christmas time of 1964 and has been popular ever since. Hasbro’s head of research at the time announced that the action figures were designed to honor veterans who served in Korea. This motif has remained true throughout the past 50 years.

Over the years, the action figure has grown into an expansive collection and has also inspired a TV show and several movies. You can check out one of the Paramount trailers here:
