This Friday (Sept. 20) will the opening day for the East Texas State Fair. This means that the area of Front Street near the fairgrounds will be loaded with traffic and pedestrians. Here is how you should treat this area during the time the fair is in town.

Driving around the East Texas State Fair area is not going to be an easy task for a little while, but here are some of the traffic advisory tips that can keep this time a safe period for all.

The Tyler Police Department has issued these tips and warnings for the Front Street and other streets surrounding the fair grounds:

1. West Front Street in front of Harvey Hall traffic will be shut down to one lane of traffic in both East and West directions all day Friday starting at 7:30 a.m. until midnight.

2. All lanes will be open until 4:00 p.m. each day after Friday. Traffic will revert back to one lane of traffic flow in each direction until closing time of the Fair.

3. When walking to entrance of the fair grounds, cross at the approved cross walk in front of the main gate.

4. Use extreme caution in this area due to the large volume of pedestrian traffic and officers directing traffic in the street.

5. If not traveling to the East Texas State Fair, consider another route to avoid fair traffic.
