As Veterans Day approaches, we will all have those that are serving or have served our country on our minds. This Sunday, Nov. 11, will be a day of not just remembrance. This day will be our chance to give our thanks to those who have protected us.
For the past 30 years Longview ISD has honored veterans and active military members with a special ceremony and the tradition will continue Saturday evening with a special event at Lobo Stadium. The event will feature marching band along with a fireworks show.
Veterans Day falls on Sunday, November 11 this year. While we should be honoring military and veterans all year round, this is a special day set aside to remember those who have fought for our freedom. To serve one's country is one of the highest of callings. No matter if a service member is in harm's way or not, the decision to step forward and take an oath to protect us is an act of bravery. Honor them for it, and pray that people are always willing to heed that call. Keep the faith brothers and sisters in arms.
