Texas is the Second Least Optimistic State in America
I came across a survey that asked 5,000 Americans across the country how optimistic they are. After 5,000 answers, the average was a 6.7.
That got me thinking: 'How optimistic am I?'
I would say I'm about a 7 or an 8 on the scale. I think things are generally going to work out most of the time, BUT...I also worry that a few things just might NOT work out and the world is going to fall apart sooner rather than later.
I would assume most of my fellow Texans think this way. I would also be wrong.
The most optimistic people are in Wyoming, where the average was 7.2. Followed by:
- California
- New Jersey
- Alabama
- Maryland.
The least optimistic state is Vermont, where the average was 6.0. Followed by:
- Texas and Mississippi were tied for second
- West Virginia
- Kansas
This survey is great because they also broke it down by generation.
The most optimistic is Boomers. Followed by...
- Millennials
- Gen X
- Gen Z
You would think the Boomers would be the most pessimistic of the bunch considering how much they complain about the younger generations, but I guess not. The survey said they "avoid letting daily annoyances get under their skin and kick off their day with a positive mindset."
This is important too....
They found that the people with the MOST optimistic outlook have healthier habits overall, like better diets, exercise, they're outdoor more and they get plenty of sleep.
They also "brush off setbacks" and are "less bothered by daily frustrations."
So, there you go! Where do you fall on the 'optimist scale'?
