Watch: People Seek Shelter From Tornado in Texas Target

When fleeing from a tornado, you have to do whatever it takes to get to shelter. 

Ideally, it would be an actual tornado shelter, but a big box store is better than nothing. No, they’re not immune from being destroyed by a twister, but it’s 1,000 times better than trying to ride out or run from a storm in your vehicle. Many have lost their lives doing that.

I’m pretty much your typical Texan in that I immediately go outside to look when we get a tornado warning. For me, tornadoes are equal parts frightening and fascinating. There’s just something about the force of nature that interests me. 

But as soon as it starts to get wild outside, I immediately head for an interior room or closet or even better, a cellar. There’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned hole in the ground to protect you from a tornado. 

The thing about tornadoes is that they can sneak up on you. Even expert storm chasers get caught off guard by tornadoes. It’s especially dangerous when they’re wrapped in rain. And that kind of looks like what may have been what happened in the video below. 

We can see the rain blowing sideways as a couple of people narrowly escape inside the store as a car is being pushed sideways right behind them. It’s a miracle the wind didn’t carry those people away. I would have gotten down on my knees and thanked the Lord if it were me.
