The Sega Genesis Mini releases on September 19 for $79.99 and comes with the console, two of the classic three button controllers and forty of the Genesis' best games loaded and ready to play. So far, we know of twenty of those games. I said "best" above and the list of these twenty makes the mini console a day one purchase already.

  • Ecco The Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Toe Jam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Thunder Force III
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi III
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Landstalker

Told you.

This morning (May 16), ten more of the Sega Genesis Mini games were announced. A video game Youtuber I follow, RGT85, got to reveal them in the video above. These ten additional games just make this classic plug and play worth it even more.

  • Beyond Oasis
  • Ghouls 'N Ghosts
  • Alex Kidd In The Enchanted Castle
  • Golden Axe
  • Phantasy Star IV
  • Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition
  • Mega Man: The Wily Wars (this was released only in Japan during the original Genesis run)
  • Sonic Spinball
  • Vectorman
  • Wonder Boy In Monster World

Holy crap!

One question that you're probably asking, "How can we play Street Fighter with just a three button controller? You need six buttons." Well, Retrobit has a Sega licensed six button controller that is compatible with the mini. There is a translucent blue and solid black version available.

You can preorder the system through Walmart, Amazon, Gamestop and Best Buy. And yes, I have preordered mine. I'll grab my buddy, Shawn, and we'll do an unboxing and game play video after I pick it up at Best Buy September 19.
