If you're looking for something cool to do with the kids before they head back to school next week - here is a cool event that is educational as well! The 'Wings of Freedom Tour' is coming to Tyler's Pounds Field Airport this weekend. The event is hosted by the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum. Several vintage aircraft will be on display including the P-51 Mustang (Betty Jane), the B-17 Flying Fortress (Nine-O-Nine), and the B-24 Liberator (Witchcraft).  Making its debut in Tyler will be the Messerschmitt Me-262 (White 1) accompanied by the UH-1E Huey helicopter.

This event is handled by the Collings Foundation. Tours will be $15 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. You will be able to tour the B17, B24, and P51 bombers.

In addition, you can purchase rides on the aircraft! I got to ride in a B52 bomber a few years ago and it's one of the coolest things I have ever done! I'm talking a "bucket list" type of experience. During this event, rides can be purchased on the B17 and B24 for $425 and on the P51 for $2,200 for a 1/2 hour ride and $3,200 for one hour!

In addition, several former Air Force Veterans who flew these planes in combat will be on hand to share their stories. This is something really cool and educational for the kids - including big kids like myself!

Tour hours will be:
-Friday, March 15 from 2pm-5pm
-Saturday and Sunday, March 16 & 17 from 9am-5pm

You can pre-book your flight through The Collings Foundation at 800-568-8924.
