In the early morning hours of September 19, Sony announced they were releasing their own plug and play "classic" system, following in the footsteps of Nintendo with their NES and SNES minis. The PlayStation Classic arrives in stores December 3rd pre-loaded with 20 games and two controllers for $99.99.

The initial announcement only included five games; Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Wild Arms.

Early this morning, PlayStation announced all twenty games that will be available on the system:

  • Battle Arena Toshinden
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Grand Theft Auto
  • Intelligent Qube
  • Jumping Flash
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Mr Driller
  • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
  • Rayman
  • Resident Evil Director's Cut
  • Revelations: Persona
  • Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
  • Syphon Filter
  • Tekken 3
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
  • Twisted Metal
  • Wild Arms

This is what I speculated in September as to what other games could be on it:

I'm hoping Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter and Gran Turismo are included. Maybe Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I would hope a classic Madden game would be included. Crash Bandicoot would be cool, too. We'll see.

Two out six guesses ain't bad, I guess. There was probably too many licensing issues for Gran Turismo because of all the different cars that are used. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a bit of surprise. However, Playstation just released Castlevania: Requiem on the PlayStation 4 which has Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood so that's probably why it wasn't included. There is the Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy that's out now, too, that most likely prevented it's inclusion.

All in all, I'm happy with the selection. Resident Evil is a great game, Oddworld is a fun, quirky game and Twisted Metal is just fun. I never played Revelations: Persona so looking forward to that. I could have done without the Street Fighter puzzle game, though.

I have a pretty good feeling about a month after it's release, a hack will be found to add more games. I've done it to my NES and SNES mini.

Pre-orders are available through Best BuyGamestop, Amazon, Walmart and Target. I pre-ordered mine through Best Buy and will pick it up at the Tyler store December 3rd.

Ahh the memories. Enjoy the gaming, friends.
