UCONN National Champs

NCAA Men's Championship Game - Butler v UConn

It wasn’t a very high scoring game but still exciting to watch, UCONN beats Butler 52-41.  Coach Jim Calhoun joins the ranks of John Wooden and Coach K with his third national title.

I will be completely honest, I never thought in a million years that UCONN would be the 2011 Mens division one basketball champion.  I mean can you blame me?  They weren’t very good in the regular season and I thought their run at the Big East title was just dumb luck.  I was wrong, very wrong.  These guys are for real!  Kemba Walker is an outstanding player, and I have no doubt that he will be a superstar in the NBA.

So UCONN beats Butler last night for their third National title.  That is big because a lot of teams never win one let alone three.  It wasn’t the prettiest game to watch.  Both teams didn’t shoot very well from the floor, but Butler was awful.  18.8% shot percentage last night, that’s the worst in title game history.  Kemba Walker finished with 16 points.  UCONN coach Jim Calhoun joins an elite class being just the 5th coach in history to win a title 3 or more times.  So congratulations to UCONN and all their fans, what a run.
