Congratulations to one of Tyler's finest, Lt. Rusty Jacks of the Tyler Police Department. He recently completed the Memorial Herman Ironman Texas Race at The Woodlands on May 19.

Lt. Jacks competed against more than 2,200 athletes from all over the world in this event that consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a 26.2-mile run. Lt. Jacks completed all of these events in 14 hours and 49 minutes.

Lt. Jacks, who is a SWAT Team commander, said:

I chose to do the Ironman as a personal challenge and because most people hear the distances and say to themselves -- that’s impossible.:

“We are very proud of Lt. Jacks,” said Tyler Police Chief Gary Swindle.  “Fitness is an important aspect of being a police officer and we encourage our officers to stay active.  However, this accomplishment is certainly above and beyond.”
