October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and Tyler firefighters are asking for your help. They're asking the entire city of Tyler and surrounding areas to wear pink tomorrow to show your support for breast cancer awareness. Tomorrow, October 9, is the third annual 'Turn Tyler Pink' event in Downtown Tyler.

The event takes place from 5 pm- 8 pm at the T.B. Butler Plaza fountain downtown. The event is specifically designed to raise funds for cancer research, as well as to bring awareness to the disease. While the event is only three hours long, residents of East Texas are encouraged to wear pink all day.

Events attendees will be treated to music, food, fun & games, screenings and more as you help raise money to find a cure. You can get your picture taken with the one of a kind "turn Tyler Pink' firetrucks as well. Also Tuesday, firefighters also plan to give away a commemorative quilt from past Tyler Fire Fighters CARE shirts.

Pink event shirts can be purchased for $15 each at Tyler’s Gallery Main Street, 110 W. Erwin St. and Holiday Inn South Broadway, 5701 S. Broadway Ave.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and may be purchased from Tyler firefighters, Turn Tyler Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Gallery Main Street and Citizens State Bank, 3915 SSW Loop 323.

The first year they did this event, firefighters sold t-shirts and raised $12,000 to support a fellow firefighter who's wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The event has since expanded to downtown Tyler, and most recently donated over $17,000 for breast cancer research.
