The Tyler Independent School District is proposing a new high school for the city depending on the outcome of a May bond issue.

TISD officials said the A.T Stewart Academy of Excellence would replace Stewart Middle School and students would have to apply to attend the new high school.

The proposed third high school would offer non-traditional classes including college ready programs, and advanced technology classes.

Voters will decide May 11 on the proposed $160.5 million dollar bond package that calls for a brand new middle school, in addition to new schools for Boulter and Moore middle schools. The proposed measure also would include renovations to Dixie and Rice elementary Schools.
