This time of the year there are plenty of great things to be a part of in East Texas and this Saturday is no different. East Texans can find some great deals with garage sales, can support a great cause, head to a festival, catch a free movie and more!

It's going to be a nice weekend once the heavy rain moves out of the area as its expected to do in the early part of Saturday morning. The rain is expected to hold off until after most of the high school football games Friday night and will rain mainly in the overnight hours.

Among the things to do in East Texas this weekend are:

Whitehouse City Wide Garage Sale

Numerous households throughout Whitehouse will be selling a lot of things they've outgrown or no longer use through their garage sales. The city is expecting some 70 or more residents to take part in this annual event. Drive through Whitehouse Saturday and you just might find that perfect thing you've been looking for in someones yard!

Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome

The East Texas Down Syndrome support group is hosting their 13th annual Buddy Walk at Teague Park in Longview Saturday morning at 9. With your family registration you'll receive a hot dog lunch and t-shirts to outfit the entire family. This will be a one-mile walk through the Nugget Hill neighborhood in Longview.

Van Oil Festival

The parade kicks off the 85th annual Oil Festival in Van Saturday morning at 10a on Main St. in Van. Among the activities are a 5K, parade, car shows, vendors, bounce houses for the kids, food and entertainment too!

Tyler Movies In The Park

The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department continues their free Movies In The Park series by showing the Alfred Hitchcock movie Strangers On A Train. Bring a blanket, chair, some snacks and catch the movie beginning at 8p at the amphitheater at Bergfeld Park in Tyler.
