‘The Voice’ Coaches + Contestants Pay Tribute to Sandy Hook Victims [Video]

YouTube

The country came together on Friday when 27 people lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. People all over the country have been paying tribute to the fallen in some way. NFL Players had a moment of silence before their games, even writing names of victims on their shoes or gloves. A woman laid 20 roses and 6 candles on her front porch – recognizing the 20 children and 6 teachers. The usually funny Saturday Night Live paused its hilarity to allow a children’s choir to sing ‘Silent Night’ in honor of the victims. Now one of televisions biggest shows is getting in on the action by singing in honor of the fallen.

As the three finalists on ‘The Voice’ geared up to perform for the last time with the winner being announced tonight, it wasn’t the finale they had on their minds. Their minds were in Newtown, Ct. Judges Blake Shelton, Christina Aguliara, Adam Levine, and Cee-Lo Green – were joined by the three finalists, hosts Carson Daly and Chrisina Milian, and 20 of the seasons previous contestants for an emotional version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.

They stood on stage surrounded by candles in an emotional, quiet setting. Each person on stage help the name and age of one of the victims in Friday’s shooting. Each note sang was sung with such emotion and heartache, it was obvious that the competition was not what was on their minds last night. Tears came to my eyes and chills ran down my spine as the song came to a close.

Of course, the show had to go on. But there wasn’t a single performance as memorable or as amazing as the one that opened the show. This goes to prove that no matter who you are, where you’re from, or what you believe in, American can come together to support our own when it’s needed most.
