The Simpsons has officially been renewed for two more seasons and will probably remain on television until the sun swallows the Earth in an apocalyptic, fiery blaze, rendering electricity and entertainment entirely irrelevant.

The beloved FOX comedy will go on to produce the upcoming Seasons 29 and 30, according to Deadline. Not only is this impressive, but it’s unprecedented, too. By the end of its 30th season, The Simpsons will have produced 669 episodes in total, which is the highest number of episodes for any scripted TV series ever — besting Gunsmoke’s previous record of 635 episodes.

Cast staples Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer -- who nearly quit the show last year but ultimately returned -- have also signed on for both forthcoming seasons.

"This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series. The Simpsons has meant so much to the network, the studio and everyone at Fox, and its continued cultural impact around the globe is a testament to the combined brilliance of Matt, Jim and Al,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, the Chairmen and CEOs of FOX in a statement.

“Congratulations to everyone who works on this groundbreaking series – from the voice cast and producers to the writers and production team – you comprise one of the greatest collections of creative talent in the history of the medium," the statement continued. "And to the millions of Simpsons fans around the world, thank you for watching all these years. We’re happy to tell you there’s lots more to come.”
