Texas Rangers Lose A.J. Pierzynski to Boston, Joe Nathan to Detroit + Trade Craig Gentry [UPDATED]

Two key components of the Texas Rangers’ 2013 baseball team won’t be back in 2014.

The Rangers are losing yet another catcher to the Boston Red Sox, after A.J. Pierzynski agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal for 2014 on Tuesday.

Pierzynski joins Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Mike Napoli as Rangers catchers who departed for Boston. Pierzynski hit .272 with 17 home runs and 70 RBIs in his only season with Texas.

A short time after the Pierzynski report came out, ESPN reported closer Joe Nathan and the Detroit Tigers had agreed to a free agent deal.

Nathan went 6-2 with 43 saves and a 1.39 ERA for Texas in 2013, leaving a big hole in the Rangers’ bullpen. He agreed to the deal with Detroit after the Tigers and San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson could not agree on a deal.

And it wasn’t long before the Rangers were making moves of their own. The Dallas Morning News reports Texas is trading outfielder Craig Gentry and pitcher Josh Lindblom to division rival Oakland for outfielder and Fort Worth native Michael Choice and second baseman Chris Bostick.

Choice was listed by Baseball America as Oakland’s No. 2 prospect for 2013.

Where do you think this leaves Texas for 2014?
