Millennials have a new drink of choice.  Instead of kegs of beer, most millennials in the US are downing something a little more hoity toity, and they're drinking a ton of it. Are Texans falling right into line?  Maybe not!

Millennials are between the ages of 21 and 38, and there are 79 million in that category in the US now.  And millennials love wine!

When you picture a wine drinker, who do you think of?  (Besides Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb imbibing on the Today Show.)  I usually think of the true wine lovers being in their forties and fifties, and they sniff the tannins and swirl the wine around in the glass before they take a sip all fancy-like, like in the movie Sideways.  This new knowledge about millennials blows that stereotype to bits.

USA Today says that in 2015, millennials drank 159.6 million cases of wine—an average of two cases per person.  Nice work!

Looking around the bar while I'm out on Tinder dates, I do usually see quite a few twenty and thirty somethings drinking wine.  But for the most part, millennials in Texas seem to be pretty attached to Shiner Bock and Tito's vodka (distilled in Austin).

Texas Wine & Trail Magazine offers some good ideas about Texas wineries to visit if you're in the mood for a road trip and some wine samples.  Take a millennial with you! They know their body, acid, and corks.
