Olivia is the most popular baby name in America for girls right now, and it's Asher for boys.

But leave it to Texas to be a little independent about all that and resist the trends.  It looks like we've got other baby naming ideas in mind.

The baby naming website, Nameberry, has come out with its list of the most popular baby names so far in 2017, and we see that there are a lot of traditional names making a comeback.

Hearing names like Clara, Adelaide, and Matilda makes us girls think we need to be putting on pioneer dresses and eating meals from the chuckwagon, but those are hot baby names right now, and will show up in kindergarten classes soon.  For boys, traditional names like Henry, Harry, and Harrison are making a comeback.

The Today Show says these are some of the top baby names in America so far in 2017, according to Nameberry,

For GIRLS:

  1. Olivia
  2. Amelia
  3. Charlotte
  4. Isla
  5. Isabella
  6. Ava
  7. Aurora

Here?  Not so much.

Texas isn't too trendy about most things, and baby names are no exception.  Noah and Emma are the most popular baby names in Texas, and other common names round out the top ten.  These are based on 2016 birth certificates, according to the Social Security Administration, and the numbers represent the number of babies born in Texas with those names.

  1. Noah 2,017  Emma 2,139
  2. Liam 1,784  Mia 2,005
  3. Sebastian 1,668  Sophia 1,955

Whaddaya think?  Does Texas win the baby naming competition?

We've learned a couple of quick things with the exercise.  Texas makes up its own mind when it comes to the beer, fashion, and now baby names.  And girls whose names end with the letter "A" are about the rule the world.
