One Texas rancher got more than he bargained for with federal land he recently leased for his cattle to graze on – to the tune of $2 million in marijuana plants.

According to the Chambers County Sheriff's Office, officials were called to property recently leased to the rancher by the Army Corp of Engineers on July 1. The rancher told officials that he was going out to inspect the newly-leased property when he saw two individuals and camping gear.

Responding officials began searching the area and said 5,500 marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $2 million was found in a remote area of the property, far removed from the roadway by thick woods.

The plants, as well as various equipment was seized, and while police said no arrests have been made, they remain confident the seized equipment will lead to future arrests in the investigation.
