Sam Simon, Co-Creator of ‘The Simpsons,’ Dead at Age 59
It’s another sad day for The Simpsons and the world at large, as series executive producer Al Jean confirmed news that co-creator Sam Simon passed away on Sunday, at the age of 59, in Los Angeles. The Emmy-winning Simon had also written for such TV legends as Taxi and Cheers, battling a cancer diagnosis since 2012.

During his acceptance speech, Groening noted that when the series premiered in 1989, one Fox executive had an issue with Lisa Simpson and complained, "No network TV show can possibly succeed that has an 8-year-old girl saying the word 'ennui.'"

Fox said if they couldn’t come to an agreement this current season would be the last for the show. There’s happy news though: the show has been renewed for two more seasons — the 24th and 25th seasons, to be exact.
