Slash has released a new webisode documenting the recording of his upcoming solo effort set to drop on May 22. In this revealing clip, which clocks in at just under three minutes, it is revealed that the guitar deity is diligent about practicing even though he is pretty much a universally revered player at this point in his long and impressive career. That fact should serve as a lesson for aspiring guitarists — you’re never too old or too good to practice.

“The more you practice, the more you stumble across great ideas,” Slash admitted in the clip. What a brilliant philosophy. Slash also said that he is “still trying to improve on what I started doing when I was 15.” He’s also modest and humble, and doesn’t think he’ll ever get to the point where he is so good that he needs to stop practicing altogether.

Practicing and spending time with his beloved instrument is not the only way Slash comes up with musical ideas and concepts. He doesn’t hear voices in his head — he hears melodies!

“You never know where it’s going to come form,” Slash said. “I’m sitting here talking to you and part of

my conscious presence is talking about this stuff and in the back of my mind, I have all these riffs going.” That’s the mark of a true guitar god. He also revealed that if the melodies he’s hearing in his head are interesting, he’ll grab his trusty guitar and flesh them out ASAP.

He also shared some footage of the recording process in the webisode, taking fans and viewers to Mates, the studio in the Valley that he has been making effective use of since the late ’80s. He says, “We rehearse the s— out of the songs until you can perform them live. That’s how we wanted to record the record.”

All this chatter makes you amped for Slash’s new album, doesn’t it?
