Jen Austin

Hi! I grew up in a one-stoplight town in rural Nebraska and my whole family still lives there. The town really does have one stoplight, along with three churches, a bar, and a courthouse. I love going back to visit family, but I always look forward to getting back to Texas barbecue, fajitas, and taller buildings! I’ve lived in Texas for 18 years now, in Austin, Dallas, and here. I’ve worked in radio from the moment I graduated from college at the University of Nebraska, and I just love getting to talk to cool people like you every day!

Good News … Texas Drivers Are Not the Rudest

When you think of the state with the worst drivers in the US, what state comes to mind? I immediately think of New York and California, but it turns out, Idaho is number one.

Do You Still Read Books? I Mean Actual Books?

You guys and your fancy gadgets and e-readers.  That's one area of technology that I just haven't embraced.

I was on an airplane earlier this month, and I noticed one other woman holding a hard copy of a book besides me.  The rest of the passengers were reading on Kindles or other e-readers.

Which do you like best?  Anybody old school like me?

Do You Work Out So You Can Drink More?

My first reaction is to poo poo the idea of working out just so we can justify more drinks.  And then I remember I hit the treadmill for 40 minutes yesterday only to cancel out the benefits with wings and drinks at happy hour last night.

The Washington Post is talking about a study that says we exercise more on days that we’re going to booze it up.

Dating Pet Peeves…Text Back Already!

Perhaps this has happened to you girls.  And guys, heads up.

You meet a guy on a dating site or app, you chat there and hit it off, he asks for your number and you give it to him, you text a few times, and then he trails off and you never hear from him again.  You didn’t send him an unflattering pic or give him any reason to change his mind, but there’s no follow-through on that happy hour he promised. What other pet peeves are big for us single gals?  They’re all communication-oriented.

Cowboys Match Comeback Record

So, if you're anything like me you gave up on the Cowboys in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Rams.  It was 21-0 and the Rams looked like they were the boss!  I thought it was going to be another one of those crazy turnover-ridden Cowboy games that frustrates fans and makes us want to drown our sorrows in more chicken wings and beer, but the Cowboys got it together and tied a record for the biggest comeback in team history.

And The Best Drinking City Is…

I went to the city that has earned the title of The Best Drinking City in America on a couple of spring breaks while I was in college. It's all kind of fuzzy, but I do recall some pretty good cosmos there. See if you agree that this city deserves to be the best for drinks.

If you have Netflix, one of the things you see when you bring up your account is a "recently viewed section."  So if your wife thinks you're a ZZ Top rocker and you're secretly watching Justin Bieber videos on Netflix, she's gonna find out about it.

A Girl Who Doesn’t Eat Birthday Cake, And Other Random Thoughts

Well here it is...my birthday, and the reason 9 and 17 are my favorite numbers.

Birthdays are good excuses to measure progress and set new goals I think, kind of like New Year's Eve only I'm the only one who's doing it today.  Unless you're a Virgo too, and in that case you're probably making your own thoughtful list, you independent, analytical, reliable, observant, perfectionst, you.  Happy Birthday to you.

There’s No Such Thing As Comfort Food?

Do you pack snacks for work?  I do.  Boring ones like gluten-free granola and crisp breads since I'm going without wheat/gluten and soy for the time being.  The kind of snacks that makes you fellas' eyes roll!  But pizza would normally be my favorite comfort food.  Do you have one?  Mac and cheese? Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream?

The number one comfort food is chocolate.  But does it really comfort us?
