Jen Austin

Hi! I grew up in a one-stoplight town in rural Nebraska and my whole family still lives there. The town really does have one stoplight, along with three churches, a bar, and a courthouse. I love going back to visit family, but I always look forward to getting back to Texas barbecue, fajitas, and taller buildings! I’ve lived in Texas for 18 years now, in Austin, Dallas, and here. I’ve worked in radio from the moment I graduated from college at the University of Nebraska, and I just love getting to talk to cool people like you every day!

Cowboys Match Comeback Record

So, if you're anything like me you gave up on the Cowboys in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Rams.  It was 21-0 and the Rams looked like they were the boss!  I thought it was going to be another one of those crazy turnover-ridden Cowboy games that frustrates fans and makes us want to drown our sorrows in more chicken wings and beer, but the Cowboys got it together and tied a record for the biggest comeback in team history.

And The Best Drinking City Is…

I went to the city that has earned the title of The Best Drinking City in America on a couple of spring breaks while I was in college. It's all kind of fuzzy, but I do recall some pretty good cosmos there. See if you agree that this city deserves to be the best for drinks.

A Girl Who Doesn’t Eat Birthday Cake, And Other Random Thoughts

Well here it is...my birthday, and the reason 9 and 17 are my favorite numbers.

Birthdays are good excuses to measure progress and set new goals I think, kind of like New Year's Eve only I'm the only one who's doing it today.  Unless you're a Virgo too, and in that case you're probably making your own thoughtful list, you independent, analytical, reliable, observant, perfectionst, you.  Happy Birthday to you.

There’s No Such Thing As Comfort Food?

Do you pack snacks for work?  I do.  Boring ones like gluten-free granola and crisp breads since I'm going without wheat/gluten and soy for the time being.  The kind of snacks that makes you fellas' eyes roll!  But pizza would normally be my favorite comfort food.  Do you have one?  Mac and cheese? Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream?

The number one comfort food is chocolate.  But does it really comfort us?

Texas Has 14 of the Biggest High Schools in the U.S.

I graduated with 12 people in my high school class in Nebraska, so it's hard for me to comprehend a high school where there are three thousands students.  That's huge! Or maybe it's time to admit my little class of six boys and six girls was abnormally tiny.  I graduated at the top of my class, but I don't spend much time telling people I only had 11 people behind me.  Shh...don't tell!  And those that graduated in the top 50 percent were actually in the top six.  That' doesn't happen often.

Texas has some of the biggest high schools in the US, and some of those have more than four thousand students.

Tis The Season For Pumpkin Spice

I love the fall!  It's football, cool weather, tailgating food, and we start flavoring everything with pumpkin spice.  Yum!

Starbucks is already out with the Pumpkin Spice Latte, and I've already had one or three.  There's something else coming out by the end of the month that I wouldn't imagine needing the pumpkin spice flavor and it doesn't on a normal day.  But it might be tasty.

It's opening weekend for the rest of the NFL (after last night's kickoff between the Packers and Seahawks), there are big college games already and it's only the second week of the season, and just cuz!  Football fans don't need huge games to sit in the recliner and enjoy a bucket of wings.  We just love football.
