East Texas has a good chance of seeing severe weather develop this afternoon and evening thanks to an approaching cool front.

According to KLTV Chief Meterologist Mark Scirto, there's an 80 percent chance of strong storms late this afternoon into this evening that could produce hail up to two inches in diameter and spawn a tornado.

The first half of the day will feature clouds, warm temperatures, humid conditions and a slight chance of rain but increasing as the day progresses.

As the storms are timed out through future casting, the storms could be in the northwestern parts of East Texas as early as 7:30 this evening and will continue to push through East Texas through Saturday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed East Texas under an enhanced risk of seeing severe weather break out. The storms that are predicted to move through will produce very gusty winds in excess of 60 mph in some storms, as well as heavy rainfall, hail, deadly lightning and the possibility of a tornado.

In the event of severe weather, we'll keep you updated from the StormTracker 7 Weather Center and if conditions warrant, we will suspend normal programming and give you complete weather coverage from Mark Scirto and the KLTV 7 weather team.

In the event you encounter a severe storm, make sure you take a portable radio with you or your smartphone with our app or RadioPup app downloaded to it for continued severe weather coverage information.
