It looks like moviegoers weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the collaboration between Ridley Scott and Drew Goddard, as the director and writer of The Martian have decided to combine their talents once again for our viewing pleasure. Just don’t expect their next project to be as uplifting as watching astronaut Matt Damon science the s— out of some potatoes on Mars.

Per Deadline, Scott and Goddard are re-teaming for Wraiths of the Broken Land, a western thriller based on the novel by S. Craig Zahler, the writer and director of last year’s Kurt Russell western Bone Tomahawk. Scott will produce the new project through his Scott Free banner, along with Goddard and Simon Kinberg.

Wraiths of the Broken Land takes place near the Mexico border at the turn of the previous century, as a group of men come together to traverse the perilous badlands in search of their sisters, who have been taken captive. Here‘s the official synopsis for Zahler’s book:

A brutal and unflinching tale that takes many of its cues from both cinema and pulp horror, Wraiths of the Broken Land is like no Western you've ever seen or read. Desperate to reclaim two kidnapped sisters who were forced into prostitution, the Plugfords storm across the badlands and blast their way through Hell. This gritty, character-driven piece will have you by the throat from the very first page and drag you across sharp rocks for its unrelenting duration. Prepare yourself for a savage Western experience that combines elements of Horror, Noir and Asian ultra-violence. You've been warned.

“You’ve been warned.” That seems like a presumptuous assertion, but it’s the sort of promise that Scott may be able to keep. The director is currently in production on Alien: Covenant, part of his new trilogy of Alien prequels starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride (what a time to be alive). That film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
