Radiohead Perform R.E.M.’s ‘The One I Love’

It’s no secret that R.E.M. have made a huge impact on the career of Radiohead. Their early ’90s sound reflected a lot on what Michael Stipe and Co. were doing at the time, and Radiohead singer Thom Yorke said Stipe personally called him to let him know R.E.M. were calling it a day last September. Over the weekend, Radiohead played tribute to the band with a live cover of the R.E.M. hit ‘The One I Love.’

As Ology points out, Radiohead were in Newark, N.J. for a show at the Prudential Center on Friday night. Yorke sat behind a keyboard and started to sing the opening lines from ‘The One I Love,’ much to the delight of the crowd. The band then proceeded to perform the ‘Kid A’ opening track, ‘Everything in Its Right Place.’

Radiohead are currently on the road in North America for the rest of June. They will then head over to Europe in July and remain there for the rest of the year.

In related news, someone had a lot of time on their hands and turned two classic Radiohead records into 8-bit tunes. A YouTube user converted ‘OK Computer’ and ‘Kid A’ into something you would hear coming out from your old Nintendo system, which can be heard here.
