There has been a lot of chatter about the reopening of Wienerland in May - a Tyler favorite that closed in 2016. While the Internet is full of critics who leave their opinion behind the safety of their glowing screens, a lot of people have come to bat for the establishment. So we wanted to try it ourselves.

The first thing we noticed when we pulled up was that it was poppin'. Both lines were full and at one point it looked like Andy's with the line spilling over into the road. OK, so people definitely like it. Cool.

Then we ordered a nice chunk of the menu and of course, one of us had to at least try the chili. Here's what we had.

I got the Plain Jane because how can you not at least get a hot dog at Wienerland. It was good, and even better when I dipped it in my chili cheese tater tots! Now. About those tots. I normally finish everything on my plate (and other people's plates), but there was so much of it, I just couldn't. People on facebook have given mixed reviews about whether this chili is the original recipe. The owners claim it is and there are customers who agree. Of course there are customers who don't, so we'll let you be the judge of that. All I know is that it was really good and I was really full.

My friend Shawn Knight got the Wiener City Dog. He's from Chicago so this one called to him the same way I notice Chicago-ans always trying a Deep Dish Pizza only to bash it by saying "it's not Chicago".

Mr. Knight actually had very positive things to say (although he did literally say "it's not Chicago"). It was made just like a Chicago Dog. It had the sesame seed bun, the tomatoes, onions, peppers, mustard - all key ingredients to a Chicago Dog. Oh, and it doesn't have ketchup on it because Chicago-ans don't put ketchup on their hot dogs.

And lastly, the Tex-Mex - chili, cheddar and jalapenos. Lucky Larry had to use a fork it was so messy. But he didn't talk the entire time he ate it so it must've been good. After the meal, he gave his approval and said he'd definitely be back for the Tex-Mex.

So, no, we didn't try the whole menu but we got a nice sample and tried their infamous chili. If you like hot dogs, or corn dogs, or snow cones - I honestly don't think you'll go wrong with any of their menu items.

Have you been there since it opened in May? What did you think? One thing is for sure, they are absolutely doing their best to make every hot dog lover in Tyler happy.
