The Oakland A’s decision to embrace the moneyball concept is well-known, so you can bet the team is none too pleased it has to pay to treat Michael Taylor’s ridiculous injury.

The outfielder, 27, injured himself in spring training throwing away gum.

Yup, you read that right. He joins the ranks of recent bizarre injuries in the baseball universe that make you think common sense is not nearly as much in abundance as PEDs. Like this one. Or this one. Or this one. Or this one.

Taylor was trying to throw out gum in the dugout, but his hand hit a light on the ceiling as he did so, causing him to cut his pinkie finger and rendering him unable to play for the last week.

Unfortunately, Taylor, was a longshot to make the squad out of spring training, which means chomping the Big League Chew may be the closest he gets to the Show.
