An important day is coming up for American's, election day! In order to cast your vote in this election, you must become a registered voter and the deadline to register is coming up soon!

Today (September 27, 2016) is National Voter Registration Day and elections offices around the nation are doing what they can to get citizens registered to vote so they may be able to cast their ballot this November. This is a big election year, not only are we voting on local issues and local offices, but we'll also be filling empty seats in Washington, D.C. and the Office of the President of the United States of America too.

Deadline to register in the State of Texas in person and by mail is Tuesday, October 11th. Don't be among the six million Americans who missed the registration deadline back in 2008 and were not able to cast a ballot in the election. To make it a bit easier and convenient for you, the Smith County Voter Registration office is holding a mobile registration drive today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the square in downtown Tyler.

In addition to registering to vote, if you've recently moved or had a change in your name, you can make changes there as well. You can always register to vote online too!

Don't miss the voting registration deadline, Tuesday, October 11th!
