Dealing with in-laws is tricky business.

Larry McElroy, 54, of Lee County, Ga., shot his mother-in-law, 74, when he fired a bullet at an armadillo, which ricocheted off the animal and into the woman's back.

We know what you're thinking because we thought the same thing, too: this guy was probably trying to shoot his mother-in-law and this whole armadillo matter is just a ridiculous cover story. What fed-up husband hasn't played out a scenario in his head where his mother-in-law isn't mysteriously "removed?"

McElroy killed the armadillo in a scene that looks like it was ripped from a cartoon. The bullet hit the animal, went into a fence, off the back door of his mother-in-law's trailer, through her recliner in which she sat and then settled into her back.

On second thought, maybe he didn't plan this because a scheme that convoluted can only be pulled off by Zack on Saved by the Bell.

No charges were filed and the mother-in-law wasn't seriously hurt. Still, she may want to think twice before she calls her son-in-law to, say, help with an ant infestation.
