One of the founding members of the legendary rock group Deep Purple, keyboardist Jon Lord, has died. Lord died today (July 16) after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He was 71 years old.

Lord played with Deep Purple from 1967 to 2002 and co-wrote many of their classic hits including 'Smoke of the Water,' 'Highway Star' and 'Woman from Tokyo.' He also played with Whitesnake from 1978 to 1984.
