Comedic actor and Tenacious D vocalist Jack Black has responded to Courtney Love‘s recent comments regarding the use of Nirvana‘s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ in the new Muppets movie and he offers his thoughts on the impact of Kurt Cobain‘s death.

Courtney Love is always ready to give the thumbs down when somebody uses the music or image of her late husband. That was again the case when she recently said that the G-rated cover of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ that appears in the recent movie ‘The Muppets’ “raped” the memory of the Nirvana frontman. Jack Black, who appears in the scene where the song is covered, isn’t buying Love’s extreme statement.

“I beg to differ. That’s absurd, absurd, absurd,” Black tells E! in response to Love’s comments. “I personally hold no one in higher esteem in the world of rock. Kurt Cobain for me is at the top of the pyramid. He was the king…When he died it was sort of the end of rock.”

Jack Black’s acoustic duo Tenacious D are set to release their third full-length album titled ‘The Rize of the Fenix’ on May 15. Ironically, the album will again feature Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl behind the kit.
