HBO has undergone some notable transition in recent months, adding a new programming president in the wake of multiple lukewarm developments, but the first major order at its new regime is at least a hopeful one. SNL vet Bill Hader will front his own series, bringing Barry to life as a dissatisfied hitman in a new comedy.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, new HBO president Casey Bloys has given out an official series order to Hader’s Barry, featuring the erstwhile Stefon and Trainwreck star as an ex-Marine turned struggling Midwest hitman. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, Barry travels to Los Angeles on a job and ends up finding acceptance in a community of eager hopefuls in the L.A. theater scene.

Alec Berg will direct the pilot, shooting in Los Angeles in 2017, having co-written with Hader. Additional stars will include comedy icon Henry Winkler, Boardwalk Empire alum Stephen Root and Glenn Flesher, as well as Sarah Goldberg and Anthony Carrigan. The project also stems from an HBO development deal with Hader going back to 2014.

Bringing Bill Hader into the fold is certainly a boost of confidence for HBO comedies, but what other big swings can we expect from the new regime?
