Rex Tillerson is a University of Texas alum, and could be headed back to the school as its next Chancellor.

The Wall Street Journal reported that UT has its sights set on bringing the former Secretary of State to campus as its next Chancellor, and that Tillerson is receptive to the idea.

Tillerson has worked for plenty of big operations in his time, as an ex-CEO for Exxon, and more recently as Secretary of State in the Trump administration before he was relieved of duties in the President's Cabinet a couple of weeks ago.

He graduated from UT-Austin in 1975 and spent time there as a section leader in the Longhorn band.  He's familiar with the campus, and already knows where the student union and the library are.

Tillerson hasn't been offered the UT job yet, but the Dallas Morning News reports a search committee is making a hard push toward Tillerson and he's listening and open to the idea.  The UT job is vacant because Chancellor Bill McRaven is retiring at the end of the current school year.  The Hill says Tillerson's connections to the Texas State government make him a top choice to replace McRaven.

There's nothing final yet, but with McRaven's retirement coming up quickly you can get they'll make an announcement soon about his successor.  And it could be an alum that comes back home after several high-profile resume entries.  Stay tuned.
