George H.W. Bush, the 41st President, is currently hospitalized in a Houston hospital, where he has currently spent a week, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The native Texan, who is 88, has bronchitis that has drawn concern from his doctors, although his chief of staff, Jean Becker, told the newspaper his condition is not life-threatening.

"President Bush is in the hospital," Becker said. "We have kept this quiet out of respect for him. His big problem is a chronic cough, he can't get rid of so he's back at Methodist [Hospital]. This is not a life-threatening illness."

Becker said Bush is expected to be released some time this weekend.

Bush's son, former President George W. Bush, has been among visitors.
