Rock heavyweights Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam have been tapped to co-headline Atlanta’s Music Midtown festival in September. The news follows the announcement that the same two bands are headlining Florida’s 2012 DeLuna Festival during the same month.

The bands will be part of an eclectic lineup for the two-day Music Midtown festival, which is scheduled to take place Sept. 21 and 22 at Piedmont Park. The bill also includes rappers Ludacris and T.I., Florence + the Machine, Girl Talk, the Avett Brothers, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. This year’s schedule represents an expansion from the one-day 2011 Midtown Fest, which ended a six-year hiatus for the festival and was headlined by Coldplay and the Black Keys.

A Live Nation representative explained the decision to add a second day, saying, “Last year we moved quickly to re-introduce the festival and this year, we have expanded our dates to encompass Friday, making this a two-day experience with a more diverse lineup.” Promoters say they’re still adding artists to the lineup, and will make announcements as the agreements are made official.

Tickets go on sale Saturday (April 28) at the Music Midtown and Live Nation websites, and start at $100 for a two-day festival pass.
