Mashup artist DJ Cummerbund has reassembled the Foo Fighters track "The Pretender" with bits of Led Zeppelin, Rick James, and the Beach Boys — and earned social media approval from the Foos themselves.

The mashed-up track, dubbed "The Freaktender," was posted Dec. 10, and although it's only racked up a little under 40,000 views as of this writing, those numbers are sure to climb quickly now that the Foo Fighters' social media team has tweeted its enthusiastic support.

NME notes that the reconstituted song begins with a few moments from the Zeppelin classic "Stairway to Heaven" before segueing into "The Pretender" spliced into the vocal track from James' signature hit "Super Freak" — and a scoopful of the Beach Boys' "Help Me Rhonda" included. You can check it out via the above embed, and sample selections of DJ Cummerbund's other work here.

As previously reported, "The Freaktender" is likely one of the only Foos-related bits of almost-new music we're likely to hear in the near future. According to drummer Taylor Hawkins, the band is currently in a "hunker down period" before getting down to work on their next record — although they'll spend some time on the road in 2017, performing at a string of European festival dates from mid-June through early July. Take a look at the complete list of currently scheduled shows below.
