Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist John Frusciante to Release New EP

Former Red Hot Chili Peppers axeman John Frusciante has kept a pretty low profile as of late. He even declined an invitation to join his old bandmates during their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month. Apparently, the guitarist decided to wait until all that buzz was over with to announce the release of his new EP, ‘Letur Lefr.’

Thanks to Consequence of Sound, we now know that ‘Letur Lefr’ will be available starting on July 9. The EP will contain five tracks, including a collaboration with R&B singer Truth Hurts, and it will come out in multiple formats. In super-ultra hipster fashion, one of the formats will be a cassette tape.

‘Letur Lefr’ is the follow-up to 2009′s ‘The Empyrean,’ which is Frusciante’s tenth solo album as an artist. He left the Red Hot Chili Peppers during their hiatus from 2007-2009, and was replaced by touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. Despite Frusciante declining to show up at the Chili Peppers’ Hall of Fame moment, there seems to be no ill will between the two parties.

“He left us so many great gifts,” bassist Flea told the L.A. Times. “He’s a phenomenal musician and songwriter who gave so much to our band. All the feelings I have for him not being in the band any more … He really took us to a higher level.”
