There's a national day for everything: pizza, hugs, Irish coffee (probably my favorite), but today is a little different. February 17 is considered National Random Act of Kindness Day.

Today is the day where, if you are so inclined, you pay it forward and practice the art of kindness. Texas Hill Country published an article yesterday that really resonated with me. Originally being an outsider from California, I found my true home in Texas and it did not take long for me to realize that.

The reason is because I see and experience random acts of kindness in Texas virtually every day. We do not need a holiday to pay it forward, but it sure doesn't hurt to have a day to celebrate it. You wonder why Texans are happier than most people? It's because being a nice and giving person helps you be a healthy and happy human being.

A random act of kindness can be as simple as smiling at a stranger or paying a compliment to someone. Texas Hill Country had a suggestion of paying for a coffee for the person behind you in the drive-thru line - that has happened to me before (I let him in before me and then he paid for my coffee!) and it absolutely made my day.

A few of our radio stations are currently running the St. Jude Radiothon. Becoming a donor would certainly make a difference in this world.

It can literally be anything. Make someone's day today and show off why Texas is such a hospitable place to live. Have a nice day today and help put a smile on someone's face. Chances are you'll catch yourself smiling too.
