Additional Information

Kids are still enjoying their summer vacation and school is the farthest thing from their mind right now.

But after a quick check of the calendar, school bells across East Texas will be ringing in a little more than a month.

The Tyler Independent School District is gearing up to get students ready for the new school year with the return of the #SchoolIsCool back to school event on Thursday, Aug. 13 in the Rose Garden Center at Harvey Hall from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Tyler ISD has partnered with the Tyler Council PTA, Northeast Texas Public Health District, the City of Tyler and area businesses for this free event.

It's a one-stop shop to get your child ready for the new year. Free health screenings will be conducted along with immunizations, dental screenings, fingerprinting, health and wellness information, nutrition options and school lunch registrations.

There will also be a school uniform fashion show, help with college preparation, help with after school activities and extracurricular activities. The Tyler Fire and Police Departments will be on hand with special presentations and much more.

Attendees will be able to receive a free backpack for their child that has been filled with school essentials, but donations for this to happen are being requested. You may bring donated items such as: glue sticks, tissues, colored pencils, crayons, pencils, pens, child scissors, notebook paper, red pens, erasers, spiral notebooks and other school supplies to City Hall at 212 N. Bonner Ave. in Tyler.
