Riverport BBQ in Jefferson has earned the title of the number two best brisket sandwich in the state from a USA Today poll. Voting took place the first two weeks of May.

“We actually cracked number one at one point, and then we dropped back to number two, but I owe it all to this little community here,” Stephen Joseph told KLTV.

His sandwich was one of twenty that were chosen by USA Today for voting. Joseph describes his perfect brisket sandwich to have two slices, an onion and five pickles.

Two restaurants that were a part of the Red Dirt BBQ and Music FestHutchins BBQ and Heim Barbecue, placed in the top five as well.

Who came in number one in the poll? Cooper’s Old Time Bar-B-Que in Llano, Texas, just northwest of Austin.
