Eagles Guitarist Update: Who’s In, Who’s Out & Why

After months of speculation, Eagles drummer Don Henley has revealed which of the band’s former guitarists (and yes, we included the bass) will and won’t be rejoining them for their ‘History of the Eagles’ tour.

Obviously, Henley’s longtime partner in flight / co-frontman Glenn Frey will be on the trek, which kicks off tonight in Louisville, Kentucky. So will longtime lead guitarist Joe Walsh and bassist Timothy B. Schmit.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, and as we reported back in April, founding guitarist Bernie Leadon will be rejoining the band. In an interview with the Louisville Courier Journal, Henley indicates Leadon will be performing “for part of the show.”

Henley also reveals that founding bassist Randy Meisner, “if he were healthy and willing, might have been included, too.” According to Vintage Vinyl News, back in April Meisner nearly suffocated and lost consciousness, and is still recovering from the incident.

As for former guitarist Don Felder, well, the phrase “when hell freezes over” comes to mind once again for the Eagles. Speaking of the poignant moment in the ‘History of the Eagles‘ documentary where Felder cries over his dismissal from the band, Henley will only say, “Since Mr. Felder continues to engage in legal action, of one kind or another, against us, I can’t really say anything further about it.”
