For the past 9 years, Dr. Smith, a Tyler dentist, has participated in an event called Dentistry From The Heart. The event offers free dental services to those East Texans that can't afford dental care. This years' event is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at the offices of Smith Dental Care in Tyler.

Dentistry From The Heart was founded in 2001 as a way to give back to the community and as a way to provide dental services to the growing number of people without dental insurance. Services that are performed during this special event are extractions, fillings and cleanings - all at no charge.

This annual clinic will open Saturday, February 8th at 5:30a, where Dr. Smith and other volunteer dentists along with their staff will be on hand to perform these dental procedures for free. In the past few years lines for this event form hours before the event begins (almost Black Friday like). To keep clients from having to wait in line in the cold weather this year, participants may stop by the office around 7p Friday night to receive a special ticket.

At last year's event, the dentists and hygienists were able to see 290 patients and their goal is 300 this year.

Important things to know about the event, the following services will not be performed: root canals, crowns, dentures, partials or bridges. In addition, minors will not be seen, so to receive a free service, you must bring along a driver's license and be prepared with medication information that you're on, if you're phobic or have a problem regulating your blood pressure.
