Undoubtedly it's one of the busiest roads in East Texas, and for the next several days traffic along Tyler's South Loop 323 is going to be shut down to one lane of traffic causing quite a few delays. TxDOT maintenance crews will be shutting down down two of the three lanes of traffic at a time on South Loop 323 between S. Broadway Ave. and Paluxy Dr. so crews can repair the pavement. Portions of the loop will be ground up so that a new layer of hot mix can be laid.

TxDOT is beginning with the eastbound lanes as of this morning. While I was sitting at the intersection of Loop 323 and Broadway this morning (Wednesday), TxDOT had left turn lanes shut down on Broadway and lanes closed on the loop. If you normally travel this portion of the loop, you are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid rather lengthy delays.

In another major project, TxDOT is in the process of resurfacing US Hwy. 69 (Broadway Avenue) between Loop 323 and Fourth St. (SH 64). This work though is being done in off peak times and will cause lane closures and delays Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and is expected to last a couple of weeks.

These are not the only projects TxDOT is currently working on in East Texas -- they also have major projects underway in Kilgore, Gregg County, Canton, Cherokee County and Wood County. Please be cautious in and around work zones and slow your speed and prepare to brake if needed.
