Deftones has revealed they'll head into the studio to start recording on a new studio album in July. In an interview with the Chilean website Latercera.com, frontman Chino Moreno says that the writing process for the album is complete and gives fans an idea of what they can expect from the forthcoming album.

"I know everybody says this, but I believe this is the best record we’ve made,” notes Moreno. “I’m very enthusiastic, because it sounds futuristic in comparison to our last one, so it feels like a step forward. The songs are very different from each other, not heavier or slower, but more dynamic, going towards several directions; it’s heavy, but beautiful."

Chino also gave an update on the band's bassist, Chi Cheng, who's still hospitalized in a minimally conscious state after receiving a critical head injury in a car accident in November of 2008. "Every day is different and he keeps on fighting,” says Moreno. “It’s been three years already, and he’s making small advancements, daily, but he can’t speak or communicate. Sometimes he can follow small instructions, like lifting a leg or a hand, so we wish for the best and maintain hope. But no doctor can predict when he’s going to wake up."
