David Lynch Reportedly Directing Video for New Nine Inch Nails Single ‘Came Back Haunted’
Earlier this month Nine Inch Nails made their triumphant return with their new single ‘Came Back Haunted’ and revealed plans to release their new disc ‘Hesitation Marks,’ due out on Sept. 3. Now, after a cryptic Twitter post by Trent Reznor of a random photo of himself and famed filmmaker David Lynch (seen here on the left) accompanied by only their combined initials ‘tr;dl’, the internet is buzzing about a possible collaboration between the two.
Pitchfork is reporting that David Lynch will be working with Reznor again to direct the video for ‘Came Back Haunted,’ although the band hasn’t publicly confirmed this detail just yet. This would not mark the first time that the two creative minds have collaborated though, as Reznor worked with Lynch on the soundtrack to his 1997 film ‘Lost Highway.’
In an excerpt from a 1997 interview with Rolling Stone, Reznor talked about working with Lynch for the first time and the impact it had on him. “He was looking for somebody to provide some of the sound for Lost Highway, and a friend suggested he give me a call,” explained Reznor. “I hadn’t seen the film, but I’m a huge David Lynch fan – we used to hold up Nine Inch Nails shows just so we could watch the latest Twin Peaks. So we set up a weekend for him to come to my place in New Orleans.”
Reznor explained the meeting as pretty tense. “At first it was like the most high-pressure situation ever. It was literally one minute, “Hi, I’m David Lynch,” and he’s cooler than I even imagined he would be,” said Reznor. “Three minutes later, he’s saying: “Well, let’s go in the studio and get started.”
So while nothing has been confirmed yet, only good things can come from these two in the same room for any given amount of time, right? Stay tuned as the details unfold.
