Even after Trevor Noah landed the Daily Show chair to follow Jon Stewart, Jessica Williams fans have still held out hope the young correspondent could one day host the series. That day looks even further off, unfortunately, as Williams confirms her Daily Show exit as early as this week, ahead of a new Comedy Central series.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the 26-year old correspondent (then-youngest to join at 22, now youngest to leave) will say goodbye to The Daily Show with Thursday’s episode. As early as March, Comedy Central had confirmed Williams would write, produce and star in a half-hour scripted pilot, described to follow “a politically-minded young woman who may be ‘woke’ but doesn’t know what she’s doing.”

Says Daily Show host Trevor Noah of the exit:

The sadness I have for Jessica leaving is only eclipsed by the joy I have for her starting her new show. If her [2 Dope Queens] podcast is anything to go by, it’s going to be an exciting show!

While Williams herself wouldn’t rule out a return to late-night (we can’t make a liar of Hot Tub Time Machine 2, after all):

Yeah, definitely. I feel like that’s something I would do years down the line, once I’ve sort of figured it out and want, like, a job that I do every single day. [Laughs] I definitely think that that’s in my futch. That’s short for future.

WIlliams will air her final piece on Bernie Sanders supporters voting for Trump on Thursday, but will The Daily Show slide further in her absence?
