Women are famous for their love of shoes, diamonds, and chocolate. I fall in with the rest until you mention chocolate. The older I get, the more I am realizing I might be way out numbered. I can't understand the world's obsession with chocolate.

Not liking chocolate has complicated more of my life than you might expect.

Birthdays, holidays, and special occasions are covered in chocolate. There have been too many birthdays that I did not enjoy my own cake because someone bought chocolate stated, "Well, I thought everyone loved chocolate." Valentine's Day is wasted on me because I do not want that big heart filled with the treats. And, don't even get me started on Easter and all of its chocolate bunnies and Cadbury Eggs. I look around at all of these events watching everyone feverishly scarf down chocolate like savage and starving beasts with their first meal in days.

This, for me, looks like a bunch of people excited over something like asparagus or brussel sprouts. Imagine watching a group of people exclaiming, "Oh! I just love asparagus!!!" They all crowd around a box of the vegetable clawing and desperate to get a piece. A hum of yum's fill the air while everyone licks the asparagus juice off their finger tips.

Gross, huh? Well, thats how people look to me when they crowd around a variety box of chocolate.

I don't get it. What is the big deal? Apparently, you chocoholics are truly addicted.

Fit Day's website explains, "Some research has shown that chocolate contains the same alkaloid compounds that makealcohol addictive..." Isn't that crazy? Chocolate, so sweet and innocent, turns out to be just like its drunken cousin, alcohol.  Another hint that chocolate might be physiologically addictive is, "It also contains a compound called anandamine, which, scientists believe, stimulates the brain in the same way as marijuana."

This is all still up for debate, but it must feel weird to hear chocoholic may not just be a cute and funny to identify yourself with. How far can this addiction or love for chocolate go?

Some say, it will even get between them and their lover in the bedroom. The Telegraph's Dr. Brooke Magnanti says, "According to a Cancer Research UK survey, one in five women would give up sex before they gave up chocolate." Intimacy with your love or cuddling up with a Hershey's bar? I really don't understand how people would choose to eat a candy bar more than do some hanky panky with their partner.

Everyone that LOVES chocolate seems so very serious and intense about this relationship, too. When I tell people that I do not like chocolate they freak out. "What?! No, no, no. You can't." Yes, I can and I do. This video feels so close to the truth of people's reactions it is a little scary.

And, it is more the women than the men that freak out. I do not believe it to be completely ridiculous to say that women love chocolate more than men. It is not our "signature treat" for nothing. Now science is starting to back up this stereo type.

No matter who or of what sex, people are obsessed with chocolate. I may never understand it, but I do hope our world makes a little more room for people like me.

I dream of the day that my server at the restaurant doesn't immediately assume I want the triple fudge brownie for dessert. I hope for a world that I am not looking down upon because of my preference of sweet cream ice cream over rocky road. One day, I will see a world were strawberry milk is loved just as equally as chocolate.

Are you with me? Are you a chocoholic and proud of it?
